Where To Visit In Puglia On Your Italian Trip

If you are looking for the best part of Puglia or the most important cities in Puglia to visit then you are spoiled for choice, there are so many breathtaking sights to suit a wide range of interests and they will all leave you with the desire to stay forever.

We’ve suggested three hotspots to visit that are sure to make you fall in love with this stunning destination – so that you know where to visit in Puglia when planning your adventure.

Polignano a Mare for Coast

Polignano al Mare Bari 1

If you love being on the coast then look forward to dipping your toes in the Adriatic Sea when you stop at Polignano a Mare! There is a myriad of sea caves that you can enjoy by taking a short boat trip and even a restaurant that has been set inside a cave with the most amazing views across the sea.

There is also the Rock of the Hermit to see, a famous sandy beach to relax on and cliff diving for those thrill seekers and adventurists that want to try something new.

Polignano is not all about being on the beach as there is a beautiful town centre to enjoy that has been decorated with famous lines of poetry, painted on doors, walls and stairs – making it truly unique.

If you love history then there are plenty of points of interest to visit too including the Domenico Modugno statue, the Lama Monchile bridge and the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II that is home to shops, cafes, and some of the most iconic landmarks on offer.

Alberobello for Countryside

Trulli Alberobello Puglia.

Want to feel like a local? It’s time to head to Alberobello and see everything the countryside has to offer. Start by taking in the trulli houses that were traditionally owned by farmers and can be set apart from the crowd with their cone shaped design and drywall construction.

These days, each trullo house is on display for tourists, with some having been converted into churches, museums and shops for you to enjoy.

You will find the biggest collection of trulli houses in Rione Monti which is the old town in Alberobello, and you can’t miss the Trullo Siamese, the most famous house in the vicinity because it has two domes that are joined, unlike all the single domed trullis.

You should also head off to the Trullo Sovrano, a two-story trullo that is now a museum for visitors to enjoy. Seeing each trullo is the main reason why tourists flock to this location every year but there are plenty of museums, cafes, and restaurants to enjoy the Puglia travel guide if you want to try something different. If you want to see the beauty of Puglia and don’t want to miss any corner. The local guide will also tell you about the history of that location. Which is quite interesting!!

Gargano National Park for Nature

Natural park Gargano Sea Vieste Puglia.

If getting close to nature is your thing then the Gargano is sure to be the best part of Puglia for you! This national park is home to expanses of pine trees, hidden olive groves and access to sandy beaches that sit nestled at the bottom of cliffs that overlook the sea. There are also a number of exquisite towns and villages that you can stop off at and enjoy some local fare, including Vico del Gargano – a village that exudes a perfect aesthetic.

When in Gargano you should also arrange to stop in Vieste and Peschici to get a real sense of what Puglia is all about. Vieste is home to a castle and cathedral and has the old trabucchi on display to remind you of the fishing heritage of the area.

Peschici also boasts a castle that you can explore and has some of the most relaxing and picture-perfect beaches to enjoy after you’ve indulged in some traditional Puglian food, wine and olive oil.
