Our Reviews
Why Travel To Puglia ?
Puglia is the much-adored heel of Italy’s boot. A long region of the south which is widely visited by Italians from all over, and for good reason. The expansive coast – which covers the Adriatic Sea on one side and Ionio on the other – boasts some of the clearest waters and spectacular sunsets. Pristine cities with baroque architecture and a fascinating history are waiting to be discovered. As are the iconic white Trulli villages backing on to mountainous landscapes.
Not to mention that just like Sicily, Puglia has its own unique cuisine which varies from city to city. There are many dishes you will only find in Puglia served by proud locals who love to show off their regional dishes. Always book Puglia travel guides before to never miss any part of Puglia.

1. How big is Puglia?
Puglia is one of Italy’s largest regions, stretching approximately 19,345 km² making it one of Italy’s largest regions. It forms the iconic “heel” of the Italian boot and boasts two coastlines: the Adriatic to the east and the Ionian to the west, for a combined shoreline of over 800 km. The region includes the UNESCO-listed Trulli of Alberobello, the prehistoric stone villages of the Alta Murgia, the Baroque cities of Lecce and Ostuni, and natural parks such as Gargano in the north. Puglia also encompasses the Gargano promontory as well as the Tremiti Islands offshore. In short, Puglia is far larger and more diverse than most visitors expect.
2. How long should I plan to visit the whole of Puglia?
To experience Puglia at a comfortable pace for the first time, we recommend between 10 and 14 days. This allows time to explore the Valle d’Itria, the Salento peninsula, the Gargano promontory, and the coastal towns, without rushing. If time permits, 3 to 4 weeks will give you a fuller picture of the region, including the Tremiti Islands and excursions into neighbouring Basilicata (Matera is just an hour from the Puglia border). That said, Puglia can be visited in 5–6 days if you focus on one specific area, such as the Itria Valley or southern Salento. Shorter trips work best with well-planned itineraries that minimise travel time and concentrate on a defined zone, as distances between north and south can take 3+ hours to drive.
3. Is public transportation reliable in Puglia?
Public transportation connects the main cities Bari, Lecce, Brindisi, Taranto but becomes limited and inconsistent in smaller towns, rural areas, and coastal spots. For a truly flexible and comfortable experience, private transportation is strongly recommended. Self-driving is an option for experienced drivers, but roads in the countryside can be narrow and signage irregular.
4. What are the best months to visit Puglia?
Puglia’s southern climate makes it a rewarding destination almost year-round. Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October) are widely considered the best times to visit: temperatures are mild, the countryside is lush or golden, and the crowds are manageable. Summer (July–August) is vibrant and festive but hot and busy along the coast. Winters are mild by northern European standards, and many inland towns and cultural sites are perfectly enjoyable from November through March
5. What are the most authentic and less touristy towns in Puglia?
The vast majority of Puglia remains authentically local. Even in cities like Bari and Lecce, most people you encounter will be Pugliesi going about their daily lives. The only area that sees significant tourist pressure is the Valle d’Itria (particularly Alberobello and Ostuni) during the peak summer months of July and August. Beyond those pockets, towns like Locorotondo, Cisternino, Otranto, Gallipoli old town, and the entire Gargano area offer an experience that feels entirely real and unfiltered.
6. What are Puglia's main airports?
Puglia is served by two main airports: Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport in the north and Brindisi Airport in the south. Neither offers many direct transatlantic flights.
7. Do people speak English in Puglia?
English is spoken in hotels, major tourist sites, and restaurants in the main cities. In smaller towns, rural masserie, and local markets, English may be limited or absent which is part of the charm, but also a reason why many travellers appreciate having a local guide or a dedicated travel concierge who can bridge any gaps.
8. Is crime a concern for tourists in Puglia?
Puglia is a safe and welcoming region, and tourists are not meaningfully at risk. Standard precautions are, as in all the cities, all that’s needed. The overwhelming majority of visitors leave Puglia with nothing but warm memories of the people they met.
9. How do your private tours in Puglia work?
All our trips are entirely private. We do not operate group tours on coaches with strangers that depart on fixed dates at fixed prices. Every itinerary is designed around you; your interests, pace, travel dates, and preferred level of comfort. Our Puglia tours typically include VIP private transfers in luxury vehicles, private guided tours with local experts in each location, authentic food and wine experiences at trusted trattorias and estate farms, luxury accommodation in handpicked hotels and masserie, skip-the-line access to key sites, and a full concierge service throughout your stay. Costs vary depending on travel dates, duration, services included, and accommodation level.
10. How do you get around Puglia?
The best way to explore Puglia is by private car or with a dedicated driver. The region is large, public transport is unreliable outside the main cities, and many of the most memorable places (trulli farmhouses, coastal lookouts, rural wine estates) are simply not reachable any other way. A private driver removes all the stress of navigation and parking, and gives you the freedom to stop whenever something catches your eye.
